PROLOG EXPERT SYSTEM FOR FORESTRY MANAGEMENT Contributed by Steve Jones, Reading University Received on the 3rd of March 1988 Shelved on the 15th of March 1988 This entry comes as two files. ESFM.PRE is this file; ESFM.PL contains the program. To use the program, consult ESFM.PL, and then call the predicate 'go'. It will ask you various questions about your forest, and then recommend action. Type answers to the questions as Prolog atoms, followed by a full stop (i.e. as input to 'read'). If you answer with a wrong term, the system will display a list of the allowed answers. The main predicate is 'go'. This empties the knowledge base of stuff from any previous consultation, and then calls 'recommendation(X)' to establish the answers to questions and give advice. 'recommendation' calls 'fact'. All but the last two clauses for 'fact' contain the rules. The final two clauses obtain data from the user, by calling 'ask' if the answer to a question isn't already known. ESFM does not explain why it asks questions, or how it came to a conclusion. CHECKED ON EDINBURGH-COMPATIBLE (POPLOG) PROLOG : yes. PORTABILITY : Easy, no known problems. INTERNAL DOCUMENTATION : Very little.
